...ruining my TV night. And tomorrow's TV night (hello, House!). I mean, just because a stupid election is going on in the States doesn't mean they should stop airing US shows on Canadian channels! Amirite? Amirite?
No, seriously, though, I totally forgot it was the US election tomorrow. (I think... it is tomorrow, right?) How I could have forgotten I have no idea, considering we've been bombarded with it for oh, the past two years? Something like that? US elections do take a long time. I'll be glad when it's over.
Actually, scratch that. I'll be relieved when it's over. Whether or not I'm happy kind of depends on who wins. As much as I pretend to be apathetic over the US election, I know as well as any other (smart) Canadian that the president of the USA essentially runs my country, too. Especially with Harper in office. It frightens me to imagine what a McCain&Harper or, God forbid, a (possible future) Palin&Harper duo could do to the world. Fingers crossed, Obama!
One of these days I'm going to have to look up the US election system, though. I mean, do people vote for the president, or what? Or do they vote for representatives and that determines the president? To be honest, I don't even know what the representatives are called in the States, which is pathetic. There's, what? Congress? And something else... the Senate, right? The same as Canada, I think. Wow, have I forgotten my basic grade 7 social studies. I don't even think I could name all 50 states anymore, and that's just sad. Either way, there seems to be an election for something or other every year and I really don't know what any of them are for or how they work! One day I'll not be lazy and actually Google it. For now, I'll stick to trying to understand the Canadian election system. And, you know, how much it can suck. |
